Our Programs

Kessler Park UMC celebrates God’s love through caring ministries within our immediate family of faith and missions in the local community and across the globe. Our varied programs and activities reflect the myriad ways to serve God and our neighbors of all ages. For more information about our ministries with children and youth, click here.

MISSIONS & MINISTRIES

Through Kessler Park UMC’s support for the agencies of the United Methodist Church, the church participates in global, national and local programs of ministry to those in need, such as food assistance, disaster relief, medical care, education and evangelism. Opportunities for personal outreach are provided by our participation in programs like AIDS Interfaith, Hearts & Hammers, C.R.O.P. Walk, Hillcrest House Supper Club, Meals on Wheels and others.

Additional ministries enrich and support the needs and opportunities of members within our own church family and the larger Kessler Park community.

MUSIC

KPUMC’s children’s music program allows young people to experience worship and learn appropriate music for worship while developing musical skills. This program allows us to instill an attitude of service in an atmosphere of Christian fellowship.

The adult choral program provides regular leadership in worship and our hand bell ensemble offers musical involvement and participates regularly in worship.

A variety of concert experiences allow for musical expression, enjoyment and spiritual enrichment.

BIBLE STUDIES

In addition to periodically scheduled short term Bible studies and a Monday morning prayer and Bible study group, Disciple Bible Study—an intensive, longer term program which encompasses the whole of Christian scripture is offered, as well as intensive studies of selected books of the Old and New Testaments.

THE KESSLER SCHOOL

The Kessler School began in 1964... more than 40 years ago when The Kessler Park United Methodist Church began a Day School with Ms. Bertha Mae Cox as its first teacher/ director. Her assistant, and later the director, was Betty Zumwalt. Over the years, young families in Oak Cliff came to rely on the Day School for their children's preschool education. In pursuit of the highest possible educational standards, families began moving from the neighborhood, or would make a lengthy drive away from the neighborhood, thinking that was the only educational alternative.

In 1999 a group of parents, who were not willing to move, joined together to begin The Kessler School. The rest, you could say, is history! Under the current leadership of Dr. Marsha Lilly, her outstanding faculty, and with NAEYC (National Association of the Education of Young Children) Accreditation, The Kessler School is poised to produce well-educated and balanced children who are prepared for success in education and living. Grades Offered: PreK - 4th Grade.
